Miniature Old Gavazi Church (or Dzveli Gavazi), dedicated to the virgin Mary, one of the first domed churches in Georgia, and exactly — the oldest in the country tetrakonkh — temple in the form of a cross. Estimated time of construction Old Gavazi Church -VI century. If it appeared before 560, the title of the first dome of the Georgian Church undoubtedly belongs to him. Close in type to this temple Ninotsminda Cathedral, which is somewhat younger than Old Gavazi, is its improved copy.
Roof of the churc is built of cobblestones. Its dimensions are 13×13 meters. The gallery around the temple also attracts special attention. Despite the fact that Old Gavazi was repeatedly attacked by foreign troops, his cross was brought down, and Shah Abbas turned the temple literally into a stable, the walls of the church survived, and it has survived in its original form to the present day. For a long time the Church remained abandoned and uninhabited, and in 1850 Georgian public figures resumed life in the local village and restored the Church.
