Breti monastery

Breti monasteryBreti monastery located in the village of Breti Urbnisi diocese. Located woman’s monastery on the left Bank of the river Pronya East (Danazole).

The monastery was founded in the VI century by the monk Pyrrhus of Brittany, who was buried in the temple of the monastery. Over the following centuries, the Breton monastery for many years was one of the leading spiritual and educational centers of the region. From its walls came such significant creations as the Breton battle cross, which is a work of Georgian coinage of the XI century, and a manuscript gospel of the XIII century in a leather binding.

The monastery was reopened in 1998. The beginning of the XXI century the only Church in the monastery was the Church of the Martyr St. George, approximately in VII – IX centuries, newly painted. The grave of the monk Pyrrhus is in the North aisle of the Church.
